Dr. Alexandria Benton-Wiss OD, FCOVD, is a board-certified Neuro-Optometrist (also known as a Developmental, Behavioral, or Functional Optometrist) and a fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Dr. Benton-Wiss, a Chicago suburb native, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and her Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. Upon graduation, Dr. Benton-Wiss was granted the 2018 Excellence in Vision Therapy Award.
Dr. Benton-Wiss is passionate about practicing full-scope diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative optometry. She specializes in diagnosing and treating vision performance conditions including strabismus, amblyopia, binocular vision disorders, learning-related vision problems, and post-concussion and traumatic brain injury vision syndrome.
Having struggled with her own binocular vision deficits due to strabismus, Dr. Benton-Wiss is particularly passionate about working with pediatric and adult patients experiencing binocular vision difficulties that impact reading and learning. As such, she has developed an interest and specialty in treating patients with learning-related vision problems, developmental delays, and other special needs. As a previous collegiate athlete and an avid lover of sports, Dr. Benton-Wiss also loves the challenge of working with athletes either recovering from traumatic brain injuries, or those looking to achieve a visual edge against the competition through sports vision enhancement training. Dr. Benton-Wiss continues to find happiness in helping patients reach their personal rehabilitation goals through the use of therapeutic lenses and active neuro-rehabilitative vision therapy following concussion, strokes, and traumatic brain injuries.
Dr. Benton-Wiss is a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), Neuro- Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA), and the American Optometric Association (AOA). In addition, she serves on the Mountain States Committee, helping to bring quality continuing education conferences to fellow optometrists and technicians with an emphasis on neuro-optometry. Dr. Benton-Wiss’ passion for neuro-optometry can also be seen through her volunteer work with the Special Olympics International Opening Eyes Program.
Dr. Benton-Wiss’ favorite pastimes are photography, exploring the beautiful mountains of Colorado with her husband and their adventurous pup, as well as cheering on the Air Force Academy Baseball team.
