Developmental
Optometry
Developmental Optometry (sometimes called Behavioral Optometry or Functional Optometry) focuses on treating eye conditions that are present in early childhood and can result in learning difficulties. Children do not outgrow these vision conditions, and they can worsen as people age or visual demands increase.
If untreated, symptoms can include:
- Slow reading speed
- Poor reading comprehension
- Difficulty with school work
- Avoidance of reading
- Easily distracted or tires while reading
- Leans into print when reading
- Tilts or lays head down when reading
